《Fame》（译名《四海扬名》或《伴我高飞》）–严格说来并不能算是一部音乐剧。音乐剧里的歌舞经常起到叙述情节的作用，而《Fame》中的歌舞单纯是为了抒情，有时仅仅是为了表现歌舞而使用歌舞，因此，说它是一部音乐剧，倒不如说它是一部穿插着音乐、表现青春成长的电影。
《Fame》的故事是通过角色在一所表演艺术高中里4年的生活来展开的，看上去因为人物过多显得有点杂乱，但细细的观察这些带有典型意味的少年们，也不失是一件有趣的事，更何况这些少年的未来，就是在向真正的音乐剧演员发展。
人物–
Montgomery Macneil：
蒙各马利·迈克奈尔，著名女演员的独生子，表演班的学生，第一个出场的人物就是他。一段独白引领观众进入影片，最初听到他的独白时，你会以为他当真是个军校生，因为当他诉说起与母亲的分离和相会时是那么情真意切，但很快你发现原来这是一个入学面试，他只是在念台词。但蒙各马利的感情的确是真实的，身为名演员的母亲总是在巡回演出，而他则孤独的住在空荡荡的大公寓里。蒙各马利可能有一点恋母情结，他的表演天分或许也是从母亲那里继承来的。整个影片里，蒙各马利几乎从没有出现过什么强烈的感情波动，他所表现出的只有忧郁，甚至包括他在叙述自己最痛苦的经历时，表现出的也只是忧郁。和他自己说的一样：”作为一个同性恋者，我永远也不会得到真正的幸福；但我也不会不幸福。”爱上了自己的心理医生，这种无法得到回报的绝望的爱情让他感觉比父亲的出走和母亲的第一次远差更加痛苦，但这种忧郁的气质却使他有了作为演员的资质。蒙各马利唯一的一次感情宣泄是《洛基恐怖晚会》的夜晚，当朋友们都去看电影时，他却独自坐在公寓的窗前，弹着吉他，唱着歌，窗外的霓虹灯光照在他身上，但一切的热闹都远离他，忧郁时候的他是与外界隔离的，他不那么孤独的理由，也许只有一个，就是Doris Finsecker。
Doris Finsecker：
多瑞丝·芬赛克，传统的犹太人家庭出身的女孩，表演班学生。她考表演艺术高中的理由只是因为家境不允许她上学费昂贵的其他高中。保守的多瑞丝就像所有传统犹太家庭的女孩一样，有一个宠爱和严格的母亲，她一开始就显得比她的同学都年幼和羞涩。有点凭着运气的进入高中的第一天，她就被午休时分的狂野舞蹈吓到了，从餐室里退出的她在楼梯上碰巧遇到了和她一样羞涩的蒙各马利，从此奠定两人的友谊。学校的生活对多瑞丝而言是实实在在的成长，表演的科目使她摆脱害羞的自我，成为他人。和蒙各马利一起坐在雪地里，抱着假婴儿大哭，或者扮成盲人走在街上乞讨（竟然有人信以为真的给了多瑞丝一个硬币，结果被她拿去请蒙各马利喝咖啡，笑），这些在以前的多瑞丝都是想都不敢想的。《洛基恐怖晚会》是她最大的转变时机，当她跑上舞台和别的女孩一起歌舞时，谁都不敢相信那就是3年前那个跟在母亲身后，乖的过分的犹太女孩。另一个更加大的转变，就是她爱上了原本最被自己视为敌人的Ralph Garci。
Ralph Garci：
雷夫·嘉西，原名Raul Garcia，波多黎哥人，表演班学生。他自做主张的改掉了原来的名字，在家里也说英语，似乎是因为厌恶自己的血统。崇拜喜剧明星、活跃过头的雷夫来考表演艺术高中时，先后被器乐班和舞蹈班踢出来，最后却进了表演班，一个真正适合他的地方。雷夫初入学就露出玩世不恭的本质，弄的多瑞丝和蒙各马利都怕了他，把他当做敌人。蒙各马利说出自己性取向的当天，他就故意男扮女装的捉弄蒙各马利和多瑞丝，可是就是这样一个讨厌鬼，最后却获得了蒙各马利的友谊和多瑞丝的爱情。雷夫最致命的优点就是他的幽默，但那是一种黑暗的幽默，是一种本该大哭时却大笑的幽默，是波多黎哥人特有的痛苦的幽默。雷夫对波多黎哥区的辛辣讽刺赢得众人的暴笑：”一个连狗狗都带着刀子的地方，随便问一个男孩将来的志向，他会回答’我想成为退休的毒枭’……”。雷夫把真实的感情隐藏的很深，只在《洛基恐怖晚会》之后，他年仅5岁的小妹妹被袭击后的晚上才爆发出来。雷夫的哭泣在多瑞丝和蒙各马利看来简直难以置信，他们更不敢相信的是这样一个整天都在笑的人竟然有那么凄惨的过去。雷夫与多瑞丝的爱情开始的很奇特，起初观众一定会认为多瑞丝和蒙各马利会成为情侣，可是，虽然当初邀请多瑞丝去看《洛基恐怖晚会》的是蒙各马利，但最后真的和多瑞丝一起去的却是雷夫。雷夫只想当个喜剧明星，但多瑞丝和蒙各马利知道他所拥有的不止是搞笑的天赋，他深藏的痛苦能使他成为更优秀的演员。
